The Art of Reiki

What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced Lay-Key) is a gentle, hands-on healing technique that channels universal life energy to support the body’s natural ability to heal and restore balance. Rooted in Japanese spiritual tradition, Reiki offers a non-invasive and deeply nourishing approach to holistic well-being—working across physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual layers.

History of Reiki
The practice of Reiki was founded by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early 20th century. Following a spiritual awakening on Mount Kurama, Usui developed a system of energy healing grounded in meditation, ethical precepts, and the transmission of healing energy through the hands.
Reiki was brought to the West by Hawayo Takata, who helped establish the practice in the United States and beyond. Today, Reiki is used worldwide in wellness centers, hospitals, and private practices to support healing, presence, and peace.
Holy Fire® Reiki, introduced by the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT), is a modern evolution of Usui Reiki that brings in a refined spiritual energy—promoting deep purification, healing, empowerment, and guidance. As a Usui Holy Fire® III Reiki Master Teacher, I work with this powerful yet gentle energy to offer sessions and classes that uplift and transform.

What Happens in a Session?
Reiki sessions are typically offered in a quiet, comfortable space. You remain fully clothed, lying down or seated, while I place my hands lightly on or just above the body in a series of positions. The energy flows where it is most needed—promoting deep relaxation, emotional release, and energetic alignment.
Many clients report feeling:
-
Gentle warmth or tingling sensations
-
A deep sense of calm or inner peace
-
Relief from pain or stress
-
Heightened clarity, dreams, or insight
-
Subtle shifts in awareness or energy
Sessions can also be offered remotely (distance Reiki), with equal effectiveness.

Applications of Reiki
Reiki can benefit people of all ages and backgrounds. It is safe, non-invasive, and complements all medical or therapeutic approaches. Applications include:
-
Stress and anxiety relief
-
Emotional healing and trauma release
-
Support during illness, surgery, or recovery
-
Pregnancy, postpartum, and fertility support
-
Grief and life transitions
-
Spiritual connection and personal growth
-
Hospice and end-of-life care
Reiki is especially helpful for those who feel highly sensitive, energetically overwhelmed, or emotionally “stuck.” It offers a way to reset the nervous system, clear energetic clutter, and return to your natural state of harmony.

My Journey with Reiki
I am Erika “Indrani” Hawley, a Usui Holy Fire® III Reiki Master Teacher since 2019, and a Usui Master/Teacher since 2007. My lineage includes both traditional Usui Reiki and Holy Fire® energy, which I weave into my sessions with presence, intuition, and deep care.
With over 20 years in the field of holistic healthcare—including acupuncture, aromatherapy, yoga, and energy medicine—I bring a trauma-informed, heart-centered approach to every session. Reiki is not just something I offer—it’s a way of life, a relationship with the unseen, and a sacred tool for helping others come home to themselves.
